Gage was taken off the field and placed onto a backboard.
In the final minutes of the fourth quarter of the Wild Card game against the Cowboys, Russell Gage was taken off the field. Gage tried to get to his feet but was unable to do so.
Gage was taken off the field by the medical crew who wheeled out a cart and placed him on a backboard that protected his spine.
After the game, head coach Todd Bowles tweeted an update, as reported by Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers official website.
It’s fantastic to see movement in his extremities. The Buccaneers confirmed in a statement on Tuesday morning that Gage spent the night in the hospital for testing and observation and that he will be subjected to more tests on Tuesday.
Gage gave an update on his health on Tuesday afternoon and thanked everyone for their well-wishes and prayers.
I am grateful for all of the messages, phone calls, good wishes, and prayers that you have sent my family and me. I just wanted to let everyone know how wonderful and happy I am!
I’m grateful.

Gage played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, where he exceeded expectations by becoming an integral member of the offensive attack and was selected in the sixth round of the draft. Prior to the 2022 season, he inked a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In 13 games this season, he recorded 51 receptions for 426 yards and five touchdowns.
We’re all praying Gage’s injuries isn’t nearly as severe as it seems and sending him our best wishes.
