Additionally, the Bucs added DL Ifeadi Odenigbo and OL Dylan Cook to their practice squad.
TAMPA — Josh Wells, the offensive tackle for the Buccaneers, will be placed on the injured reserve list for the second time this season due to a knee injury that will end the season.
The 31-year-old Wells sustained a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during Sunday’s 19-16 overtime victory over Arizona.
Linebacker J.J. Russell was signed by the Bucs from their practice squad to their 53-man roster. Dylan Cook, an offensive lineman, and Ifeadi Odenigbo, a defensive lineman, were also added by Tampa Bay to their practice squad.
Odenigbo, 28, is a six-year veteran who has played for the Vikings, Browns, Cardinals, and Giants. Before being released by the Indianapolis Colts on December 20, he had 12 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season. With seven sacks in 2019 to his 14 overall, he could be moved up to add depth.
In the last two games, outside linebackers Anthony Nelson and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka have played every defensive snap while Carl Nassib is recovering from a pectoral injury. As a pass rusher, Russell will provide the Bucs with instant assistance.
Due to a calf injury he sustained in Week 2, Wells was placed on injured reserve initially. Due to injuries to Donovan Smith and Tristan Wirfs, he started the last two games at every tackle position. While Smith was sidelined due to a foot injury on Sunday, Wirfs made his ankle injury worse.
