By the time the game ended on Thursday, the Huskies were down to six players.
During UConn women’s basketball’s victory over Princeton on Thursday night, injuries kept piling up. Lou Lopez Sénéchal and Nika Mühl both left and did not come back. Azzi Fudd (broken right knee) and Dorka Juhász (broken thumb) were already out of the Huskies.
Mühl was knocked out early in the third quarter after running after a loose ball and running into a Princeton player. She struck Aaliyah Edwards’ knee with the back of her head. She required assistance to the sidelines, where she sat for a while on the bench before entering the locker room on her own and staying out of it.
After the game, Geno Auriemma said, “It was a pretty good shot obviously but she’s in the locker room and she says she feels fine.” So let’s see. Tomorrow, we’ll know more. I hope it’s not anything.
During the fourth quarter, Lopez Sénéchal started to limp. She went to the bench and did not rejoin the game. The fifth-year guard has been recovering from a foot strain for “about two weeks,” according to Auriemma’s subsequent revelations. The decision to sit was made with the remainder of the season in mind, according to Lopez Sénéchal.
“My foot feels good.I made a few minor adjustments,” she remarked. All it was hurting was more. but all they wanted was to be safe and to stop hurting it so they could continue to [play] all the games.
Mühl scored five points and dished out seven assists, while Lopez Sénéchal scored eighteen points before the injuries. UConn had to play the entire game with just six players, including just two guards, in their absence.
