SO SAD: what a versatile injury from a hero below…….

Next spring, Connecticut will have to do without one of its best players if it hopes to win a record-tying 12th National Championship.

Paige Bueckers, a junior guard, suffered an ACL tear on Wednesday and will miss the entire 2022–2023 season, the Huskies announced.

In a statement, head coach Geno Auriemma said, “We’re all devastated for Paige.” “This is a regrettable setback for her as she has worked really hard this offseason to get stronger and healthier. Although Paige is an incredible basketball player, she is also a better person and teammate, so it’s very sad that this has happened to her. Although we will miss her on the court, she will make every effort to continue leading and supporting her teammates this season. Paige will receive assistance from our program during her recuperation so that she can return stronger and better.”

The 20-year-old Bueckers will have surgery on Friday, and more information about her recovery schedule will be provided later.

Due to a leg injury, Edina, Minnesota native Bueckers was only able to play in 17 games the previous season. Over 29.1 minutes per night, she averaged 14.6 points on.544 shooting, 3.9 assists, and 4.0 rebounds.

In the championship game last April, South Carolina defeated the Huskies 64-49.
