NEWS NOW: A key player has joined the Seahawks’ active roster……

Wide receiver Cody Thompson was waived, and the Seattle Seahawks swiftly filled his place on the roster.

Linebacker Jon Rhattigan, who started the season on the practice squad, has signed to the 53-man roster, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson. Rhattigan was limited to playing for the Seahawks this season because he had already used up his three practice squad elevations. Although Rhattigan hasn’t played a defensive snap in the regular season for Seattle, he has established a solid special teams role.

There is currently a spot open on Seattle’s practice squad, and if Thompson clears waivers, who knows? He might be able to fill it. Earlier in the week, the Seahawks also brought in a number of players for workouts, including Tavon Austin, a former Rams receiver and return specialist.

With Thompson off the active roster, the Seahawks will only have four wide receivers for their matchup with the New York Giants on Monday. However, they can always promote a receiver from the practice squad on game day (something they haven’t done yet this season). In Week 6, Dareke Young can also be activated from injured reserve, and in Week 8, Dee Eskridge can be activated from the suspended list.
