A slapshot to the head happened to Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson during the third period of the team’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. After resting on the ice for a short while, he pulled himself off of it.
Not barely two minutes into the third quarter of play, former teammate Brenden Dillon slapped Carlson with a puck. That was the same night that teammate Alex Ovechkin tied Gordie Howe for second all-time in Goals Scored in NHL history.
Before leaving the game, Carlson had skated 16:12, had two shots on goal, and was seriously cut from the hit. Despite this, he managed to skate to the locker room on his own, followed by Capitals Head Trainer Jason Serbus. Dillon was sold to the Jets in exchange for two draft picks after playing for the Caps from 2019 to 2021.
Since he can remember, Michael Fleetwood has been a Capitals fan since he was born into a family of ardent supporters. Born in the year the Capitals made it to their first Stanley Cup Final, he is an avid supporter of the team, the owner of the first-ever Joe Beninati jersey, and has had the pleasure of seeing Joe in person. Since joining the NoVa Caps team in 2015, Michael has taken great pride in witnessing the community’s expansion. Michael lives in Virginia and is an avid photographer.
