The Arizona Cardinals announced on Monday morning that Jeff Gladney, a cornerback, had passed away in an automobile accident.
At 25, Gladney was.
The Dallas collision occurred at roughly 2:30 a.m. The Fort-Worth Star Telegram reported that another passenger, a woman, perished in the collision as well.
The accident’s cause is being looked into.
As stated in a statement, “We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing,” the Cardinals said. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.”
Gladney was “expected to play a significant role on defense this season,” according to the Cardinals, who signed him in March.
Gladney was a player for Texas Christian University prior to the Minnesota Vikings selecting him as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Just before signing with the Cardinals in March, he was cleared to play after being put on trial for a felony assault charge, for which he was found not guilty.
The Vikings released a statement saying, “We are saddened by the tragic death of former Viking Jeff Gladney.” “Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as well as the Arizona Cardinals organization and Jeff’s current and former teammates and coaches who are mourning his life lost much too soon.”
TCU’s athletic director, Jeremiah Donati, also issued a statement, saying, “We were all deeply saddened to hear of Jeff Gladney’s passing, especially our football program. Jeff stayed connected to TCU even after receiving his degree and going on to play in the NFL. His alma mater was everything to him. He was a regular visitor to campus and proudly brought his young son along to our spring practices and game this year. Our whole community will miss him.”
