BBC injury UPDATE:FOR Cardiff City defender out for…….

Sol Bamba of Cardiff City has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after injuring knee ligaments.

Bamba, 34, was stretchered off the pitch during Cardiff’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Wolves on Saturday.

Manager Neil Warnock stated that the Ivory Coast international had a cruciate knee ligament rupture and will require surgery.

This season, Bamba has started all but one of Cardiff’s Premier League games.

His absence will be a big blow for the Bluebirds, who are already in the relegation zone following three straight defeats.

“Unfortunately our biggest fears have been confirmed regarding the injury Sol suffered at Wolves on Saturday,” Warnock said in a statement.

“Scans revealed that Sol had an ACL tear. He will have surgery on Wednesday and will so miss the rest of the season.

“It is a major blow to the squad but I know all of our supporters will join me in wishing him the very best during his recovery.”

Bamba was a constant in the team’s promotion to the Premier League last season. In August 2017, he agreed to a three-year contract.

His injury also means he will miss the Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations in June, which already has a fitness issue with Levante midfielder Cheick Doukoure.

“It is with great sadness that I have to leave my team-mates for the rest of the season,” Bamba wrote on social media.

“Of course, it’s a big blow for me right now, but we have to think about the club first and focus on our goal, which is to stay up.”

“It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League, and I have been fortunate enough to do so this season.”

“The team and the gaffer have my full support and I will be there behind them for the final nine games.”
