BREAKING NEWS: Commanders are about to make a mistake

Chase Young’s popularity was dwindling in Washington.

According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the defensive end, who was reportedly sent to the 49ers in one of the largest trades before Tuesday’s NFL trading deadline, fell out of favor inside the Commanders organization.

Silver described the 24-year-old as a “undisciplined” athlete who preferred to create “splash plays” rather than execute his job.

According to the article, Washington believed the 2020 No. 2 overall pick out of Ohio State peaked during his rookie season, when he was awarded Defensive Rookie of the Year and made the Pro Bowl.

This season, Young had 15 tackles and five sacks before being traded to San Francisco for a third-round draft selection.

The former Commander now joins a defense that ranks seventh in the NFL in points allowed (17.5 per game) and has Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and others. Arik Armstead, Drake Jackson, and Javon Hargrave.

Before the 2020 NFL Draft, Young’s Ohio State teammate Bosa had high comments for the soon-to-be NFL rookie.

“He works his butt off,” said Bosa of Young in 2020, according to The Athletic. “And if he thinks something will help him, he’ll work really hard at it.” In terms of work ethic, he’s a lot like me and Joey [Bosa]. We are all striving to be the best. You really couldn’t go wrong with him.”

Young has 90 sacks and 14 tackles in three-and-a-half seasons in the NFL.

However, an ACL tear limited him to just 12 appearances between 2021 and 2022.

After Washington declined his fifth-year player option, he will be a free agency at the end of the season.

On Tuesday, the Commanders dealt their other outstanding defensive end, Montez Sweat, to the Bears for a second-round pick.
