Sad news for Golden State Warriors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis player Dillon Brooks was tossed following a flagrant-2 foul on Gary Payton II two days after Draymond Green was ejected, and not even three minutes into Game 2 of the Warriors-Grizzlies series.

Payton rushed to the locker room for X-rays on his left elbow after making one of two free-throw attempts. Payton did not come back into the game. The Warriors stated that first X-rays were inconclusive, but that he suffered a fractured elbow after the game.

Green immediately joined Payton in the locker room after being hit in the face by Memphis’ Xavier Tillman while chasing a loose ball. Green returned to the game to begin the second quarter after receiving stitches for a cut in his right eye.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr was furious with Brooks after he floored Payton. After referees removed Brooks, Kerr yelled, “Get the f— out of here!” toward the Grizzlies’ bench, according to courtside observers.

When asked about Memphis’ rough play after the first quarter in a televised interview, Kerr remarked, “That wasn’t physical.” “That was filthy.”

After taking a pass from Green and soaring into the hoop for a potential slam, Brooks attacked Payton from behind, throwing his right arm into Payton’s head. Crew chief Scott Foster quickly assessed the footage and called a flagrant-2, which results in an immediate ejection.

Brooks is the key defender on Stephen Curry for Memphis, so his absence might have a significant influence on Game 2.

Green was called for a flagrant-2 foul late in the first half of Game 1 on Sunday after hitting Memphis’ Brandon Clarke in the head and grabbing his jersey.
