The Michigan Wolverines football program has been under investigation since the middle of October due to sign-stealing. This allegation was due to low-level staffer Connor Stallions, an analytics analyst for Michigan.
Amidst the investigation, talks have been spreading about the Michigan Wolverines head coach, Jim Harbaugh, possibly leaving his alma mater for the NFL. In recent days, it was said that his current contract was going to be extended or rescinded because of the NCAA investigation.
On Monday, the Wolverine’s head coach stated that those rumors were “inaccurate.”
Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh’s Contract Extension On Hold
Jim Harbaugh agreed to a 5-year deal worth $36.7 million last season (2022). During the previous two years, the Michigan Wolverines head coach has gone 25-3, beating his biggest rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in back-to-back seasons, winning the B1G conference in consecutive seasons, and reaching the College Football Playoffs.
Now he is trying to get the Michigan Wolverines back to Indianapolis for a third straight conference championship. Due to the recent investigation, no one is certain of what will take place with Harbaugh’s contract as he was told not to sign on the dotted line until the NCAA finishes its search.
Connor Stalions Allegations
The NCAA is looking into allegations made by Michigan staffer Connor Stalions. He has bought 35 tickets for other people to 17 other college football games/stadiums. This includes SEC title games as well. Recently a Division III coach admitted to being paid to record opponent’s sidelines. Stalions used a personal Venmo account to give the former coach money to videotape opposing B1G school’s games (3).
The investigation has been going on since October 18th. Connor Stalions has since been suspended with pay from the University. Michigan still has games this season, with four remaining on the schedule.
Michigan Wolverines Remaining Schedule in 2023
The Michigan Wolverines have four games left, including Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State. Harbaugh is focusing on coaching the team and winning the rest of this season. They are sitting at 8-0 heading into their next game against the Boilermakers.
If the NCAA does not appear to find any further evidence when the investigation is done. Harbaugh may be signing his new contract extension going into next season. 2023 is almost at the end, but hopefully, it won’t be the end of Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.
