BREAKING NEWS: Warriors forward has been release

Addin Fonua-Blake, perhaps the best prop in the NRL, has allegedly demanded an immediate release from the New Zealand Warriors.

The 27-year-old was the highest-paid prop in the game last season and is currently on a three-year contract paying more than $1 million per season.

According to News Corp, Fonua-Blake has asked the New Zealand Warriors for an urgent release on humanitarian grounds.

According to the publication, the forward’s management intends to approach the Warriors on Thursday with a request to relocate back to Sydney to be closer to his parents.

While no club has expressed interest in one of the game’s finest front-rowers, the announcement is sure to spark a big scramble among clubs hunting for a star striker. The Canterbury Bulldogs, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Wests Tigers are likely frontrunners to sign him.

Fonua-Blake was granted a release from his contract with Manly Sea Eagles at the end of 2020 to join the New Zealand club, which would be a huge blow to the Warriors’ premiership ambitions in 2024.

Since his debut in 2016, the New Zealand and Tongan international has played 12 international Tests and 159 first-grade games, 97 for the Sea Eagles and 62 for the Warriors.
