Rangers’ deal collapsed and player announces retirement at just 27

Former Manchester City and West Brom defender Kean Bryan has announced his retirement five years after Scottish Premiership club Rangers pulled out of a £2.5 million move.

Rangers’ interest in the outstanding young centre-half, according to Steven Gerrard, was more than just idle paper talk.

The Rangers missed out on the Kean Bryan trade.
“Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement with Kean,” the then-Rangers manager told BT Sport. “We respect his desire to keep his options open.”

You can see that we clearly need a center-back, so it is definitely an area that we are attempting to fill. “Hopefully, sooner rather than later.”

Joe Worrall would be called upon by the Gers. The ex-Ibrox loanee is presently playing Premier League football with Nottingham Forest.

Bryan, on the other hand, is making the painful choice to retire from professional football at the age of 27, owing to a never-ending sequence of fitness difficulties that have limited him to only 22 league appearances since that failed move to Glasgow five years ago.

A former Ibrox target has announced his retirement.
“I would like to officially announce my retirement from professional football,” Bryan writes on Instagram. “After two long years of battling with my knee injury, I’ve decided to retire from football due to medical advice.”

“I eagerly await the next chapter in my life.” Thank you for all of your help throughout the years.”

Bryan did not appear in a single game for West Brom in 2022/23 before being released.
