This season, the veteran forward has appeared in three games with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League, recording one goal and four assists.
EDMONTON, ALBERTA — The Edmonton Oilers announced on Tuesday that they had signed forward Sam Gagner to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 per year in the NHL.
The Oilers inked a professional tryout (PTO) arrangement with the veteran of 16 NHL seasons on August 28 to participate in training camp, but he did not play any pre-season games as he completed his rehabilitation from a pair of hip operations last spring.
On October 23, Gagner signed an American Hockey League contract with the Oilers’ affiliate Bakersfield Condors, where he appeared in three games and scored one goal with four assists.
Gagner is returning to the Oilers organization for a third time after being drafted by the team in 2007 (sixth overall) and appearing in 481 games with 101 goals and 194 assists for 295 points through 2013-14. The 34-year-old returned to Oil Country for the 2018-19 season, appearing in 61 games and recording 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points before being moved prior to the 2020 trade deadline.
Gagner has played in 1,015 regular season games with Arizona (2014-15), Philadelphia (2015-16), Columbus (2016-17), Vancouver (2017-19), Detroit (2020-22), and most recently Winnipeg (2022-23). He has 192 goals and 327 assists for 519 points.
Earlier in the day, the Oilers placed forward Adam Erne on waivers for the intention of assigning him to the Condors.
