The Edmonton Oilers are in big trouble

The Edmonton Oilers were considered to be one of the greatest teams in the NHL before the season. They have so much talent on the ice that they should be challenging for the Stanley Cup.

When it comes to the Edmonton Oilers, everything revolves around Connor McDavid. Of course, he is currently injured, which is not ideal. He won’t be gone long, but every time he is out is terrible news for the Oil. He must return as quickly as possible.

Leon Draisaitl has nearly as many points as Connor McDavid. When McDavid was out for an extended period of time, Draisaitl stepped up and earned the scoring title as well as the Hart Trophy. With players like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane, Evan Bouchard, and Zach Hyman on the roster, you’d expect a lot more.

The Oilers were 1-4-1 into Thursday night’s game against the New York Rangers in Edmonton. They were hoping for a strong effort to bring them back on track, but that did not happen.

The Edmonton Oilers were defeated by the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Early in the second period, the Rangers established a 1-0 lead. On the power play, Adam Fox scored. It was the ideal method for the Rangers to take the lead. The Rangers then did an excellent job of controlling the puck and keeping Edmonton at bay.

After that, Braden Schneider and Alexis Lafreniere each scored, giving the Rangers a 3-0 lead. They enjoy seeing all of these young men get on the board. In Lafreniere’s instance, it’s his third goal in three games. He’s definitely off to a terrific start this season.

Jonathan Quick made 29 saves on 29 shots to keep the Oilers at bay. They couldn’t get one past him and were therefore shut out. In every aspect, it was a horrible look for them. They are now 1-5-1, which is not what they hoped for when the season began.

So, how can they pull out of this funk thus early in the season? For starters, it would be great if they could reclaim McDavid. Second, they must rediscover the resolve that propelled them to success last season. They have plenty of time because it is early in the year, but they don’t want to fall too far behind.

The Oilers are now on a two-day break as they prepare for the Heritage Classic. In the Battle of Alberta outdoor edition, they will battle the Calgary Flames. They also lost 3-0 on Thursday, so they have some issues to work out. It will be an exciting game to witness.
