The former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant could find his second head coaching job.
PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach and defensive assistant Brian Flores is amongst the favorites to be hired by the Las Vegas Raiders when they conduct a coaching search this upcoming offseason.
The Raiders made the decision to fire head coach Josh McDaniels following the team’s poor start to the 2023 season. They hired former NFL linebacker Antonio Pierce as their interim head coach for the remainder of the season, but much like the Indianapolis Colts did with Jeff Saturday last year, it’s being viewed as an experiment to see if they need to open up a search in the spring.
If/when they do, Flores will be a name to watch. The current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator has the sixth-best odds at BetOnline.ag to be named the Raiders’ next coach. He sits tied with Pierce, Ejiro Evero, Brian Johnson, Ken Dorsey, Mike Macdonald, Raheem Morris and Rich Bisaccia at 12/1 odds.
The current odds-on favorite to land the job is Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh (5/1), followed by Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Ben Johnson (7/1).
Flores was a head coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021 but was fired after controversy involving claims the team was tanking. He joined the Steelers defensive staff in 2022 before being hired by Minnesota.
