Washington Commanders star Pens a Heartfelt Goodbye

Days after he was traded from the Washington Commanders to the Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat sent a message to the franchise that drafted him and the city that supported him.

The Washington Commanders made quite the splash on Tuesday by trading not just one first round defensive end, but two.

With the Commanders moving on from Montez Sweat and Chase Young midway through the season there are those who think the franchise is doing the same to this year as a whole.

And while Washington trims from four to two first round NFL Draft picks on its defensive line, one of them is moving on by thanking the franchise for good memories and fans for great support.

“Man.. as I sit here with so many emotions and try to gather the words to express my gratitude to the (Commanders) organization, & fan base, I don’t even know where to start,” Sweat posted on Instagram three days after the trade that sent him to the Chicago Bears. “Since 2019, you guys embraced me and welcomed me with open arms to the great city of Washington, D.C. The last 5 years have been filled with ups and downs..we went through it all together & I will always call this place home. The DMV will hold a special place in my heart forever. To my teammates, that have developed into life-long brothers.. Those relationships were never taken for granted and every teammate I’ve come across impacted me on this journey and helped mold me into the player I am today, thank you. This is all part of God’s plan for me, I’m excited & looking forward to what’s to come. All Luv DC. – 90”

Sweat spent four full years and half of his fifth in the NFL with the Commanders amassing 35.5 career sacks in 67 games.

He’ll now join a Bears roster with just two wins including one that came against Washington in Week 5 on Thursday Night Football.

The fifth-year defensive end is now viewed as a potential player for the future who could become the featured star on the defensive line in Chicago.

It’s a role Sweat was hesitant to accept right away, but as he ended his message, “Chicago, let’s get it!,” as emotional as his departure may be, his future is just as potential-filled as it has ever been.
