The play of their running backs has contributed to their success.
In their debut seasons in Detroit, both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have excelled at bearing the load.
The Lions signed Montgomery in free agency, while Gibbs was chosen with the 12th overall pick in the NFL Draft.
They’ve evolved into one of the best running back tandems in football.
Montgomery has gotten the majority of the work when he was healthy.
However, he missed the last two games due to a rib ailment, and Gibbs stepped up in his place.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell sees his team’s backfield as a committee, with Gibbs getting his “fair share,” according to the team’s YouTube channel.
Gibbs is the more explosive running back, as seen by his performance in the last two games.
The youngster was effective catching receptions out of the backfield and had two games with more than 100 yards from scrimmage.
Montgomery, on the other hand, has had a fantastic season and has been dominant between the tackles.
You can guarantee he’ll continue to be their goal-line back and see lots of carries as the season progresses.
It will be intriguing to see how they do in Montgomery’s return from injury next weekend.
But, the Lions have been at their best with both in the lineup and their running game should remain strong for the remainder of the year.
