New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has sent a very very bad news to players

The New England Patriots have offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien and the team has been in the midst of one of the most miserable seasons offensively they have seen in more than a few decades. Ranking 31st in the league with just 15.0 points per game and very little improvement from quarterback Mac Jones, someone may be fired as a result of the unimpressive performance.

The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin wrote a column last week that indicated the future of offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is anything but guaranteed with the New England Patriots.

“No one I’ve spoken to believes that O’Brien came to New England with long-term plans of being the offensive coordinator, because he wants to use the job as a springboard to a head coaching opportunity. He could have been a candidate to succeed Belichick, but Jones’ struggles and the Patriots’ 31st-ranked scoring offense probably have squashed that. Now there are rumors that O’Brien, a former Penn State coach, could be headed back to college, with Michigan State looking for a new coach (and maybe Michigan, too).”

This should not come as a surprise to many people as Bill O’Brien has struggled at the NFL level. He has not been a head coach at any level since being fired by the Houston Texans during the 2020 season.

Where would be the best fit for Bill O’Brien in 2024?

It seems obvious that the New England Patriots are not going to get rid of coach Bill Belichick and blame the offensive woes on Bill O’Brien. Just as Volin wrote, a return to the collegiate ranks feels more likely than another position in the NFL. With the openings surrounding Big Ten Conference programs like the Michigan State Spartans, that feels like a better landing spot for Bill O’Brien.Ezoic

He has struggled in a few positions at the NFL and has been successful in college football. Expect to see a team like Michigan State give him a call as no other coaching vacancies has really opened up as of this writing.

Who can be the next offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots?

The New England Patriots have to figure out some offense and a strong offensive coordinator would be a step in the right direction. However, the Patriots have a thing for getting people in the Bill Belichick coaching tree so it is likely we will see someone like former Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels return as offensive coordinator.

However, if it is someone out of the Belichick system, former NFL quarterback and current quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers Josh McCown. A former quarterback that can help either Mac Jones or a rookie quarterback if the Patriots decide to select one of them.
