New York Yankees has taken a drastic decision on their coach

The New York Yankees are expected to hire this Detroit Tigers coach as their next hitting coach.

The New York Yankees appear to be getting close to filling their hitting coach vacancy.

According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, the Yankees are expected to come to an agreement with James Rowson to make him their next hitting coach.

The New York Post first reported that the Yankees extended Rowson an offer.

If he takes the job, Rowson would be succeeding Sean Casey, who spent the second half of the 2023 season as the Yankees’ hitting coach, taking over for Dillon Lawson. Casey announced he would not be returning, citing family reasons. Lawson was fired during the All-Star break after the Yankees’ offense struggled mightily in the first half. Casey had no prior coaching experience, but endured a long MLB career.

Rowson, 47, spent six years as the Yankees’ minor league hitting coordinator and formed a strong bond with superstar Aaron Judge.

The words is that Rowson is against the launch angle philosophy and has a more holistic hitting approach.

Rowson has worked for the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins and Detroit Tigers. He was the Marlins’ bench coach from 2020-2022 and the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach in 2023.
