Hard to say Good bye: New York Giants has just dropped a heartfelt message

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – For the third time this week, a veteran player with the New York Giants has informed the team of his decision to retire.

Offensive lineman Zach Fulton, signed this offseason, told the Giants late Thursday night of his intentions to hang up his helmet and shoulder pads.

This news comes after linebacker Todd Davis and guard/center Joe Looney, who signed with the Giants last Saturday, opted to call it quits from the NFL just days into their tenures with Big Blue.

Three veterans in a span of four days walked away from Joe Judge’s team, raising the question: Is it a concerning trend or just part of the game?

In an interview with 9Sports in Denver, Davis was complimentary of the Giants and in no way suggested Judge’s hard-nosed coaching style – perceived as old school and perhaps too much for today’s NFL by some – was part of his decision.

“It was great there. I feel like they have a great coaching staff,” Davis said. “There’s a lot of coaches there who care about their players doing well, so I expect them to do well.”

Fulton was in the mix for a reserve role on the interior offensive line. The Giants will clearly be on the market for options in that spot with Looney and Fulton gone. Shane Lemieux is working his way back into his spot at left guard after sustaining a knee injury early in camp. Veterans Kenny Wiggins and Jonotthan Harrison are getting significant snaps so far this week. Will Hernandez is currently projected as the starting right guard.

Veteran Austin Reiter, most recently with the Chiefs, was scheduled to visit the Giants early this week.
