Earlier today, the Detroit Lions have decided to bolster their impressive but young defensive line with some veteran leadership and experience. Having lost last season’s breakout rookie outside linebacker, James Houston – who compiled 8 sacks across the back half of last season as a pass rush specialist, bringing on some experience to help at the outside linebacker position is a smart move for a very competitive 7-2 Detroit Lions team that seems poised to win their first division title in 30 years and are well positioned for a potentially deep playoff run.
Having a backup option behind the star-bound Aidan Hutchinson and veteran Romeo Okwara, especially one with experience and pedigree, is certainly a wise move for the Lions. And the 36 year old pass rusher is not exactly rusty, having played a reasonably large role in Seattle’s defense in the 2022 season, just a year ago.
Although Irvin is not the starting calibre/borderline Pro-Bowler he was half a decade ago, he should provide a much needed leadership and know-how to an inexperienced Detroit Lions team.
