The Las Vegas Raiders have put many resources into their offensive roster. They did so through contracts, as they have one of the most expensive offensive rosters in the league. They also did so through the draft. Las Vegas considered many of the rookies from their most recent draft class foundational to the organization’s success. Arguably, none of those rookies have had as much asked of them as rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. Raiders’ veteran wide receiver Davante Adams likes what he sees so far from O’Connell. “A lot of good,” Adams said. “Obviously, a lot of things he can learn from as well. That comes with playing quarterback in his league. Those are, I think somebody said to me after the game, growing pains of playing this position. It’s the toughest one to play, but he’s done a great job, made some big strides since when he first got here, and just continuing to evolve and learn.” “I think that’s the biggest part. You’ve got to be willing to be hard on yourself, which he clearly is. And I think everybody in this building and outside the building sees that he’s that way on himself. He just wants to be as good a player as he can for this team.”
“So, he’s not like a rookie, as I’ve said before. There’s a lot of things that he does that are very vet-like, and it’s going to give him that advantage moving forward, and he’s just got to stay with it, and we’ve got to do our part to help him.” Tight end Michael Mayer is another rookie Adams has been impressed by. “Another one [rookie that Adams feels is playing well]. I mean, a really mature guy that came in and got a good dose of Maxx Crosby to kind of show him what the NFL is all about,” Adams said. “There’s not going to be many guys out there that can emulate what Maxx does every day in practice for him.” “So, having those types of reps and taking it as seriously as he does, making big plays in these games. He’s been a big part of our offense, especially over the past few weeks.” “So, we’ve just got to keep feeding him and he’s got to keep doing what he’s doing. But it’s very promising from what I’ve seen from him. He asks a lot of questions, and you can tell he’s very detailed, and that’s what you have to have in this offense.” Las Vegas continues to find ways to get as many playmakers involved as possible. O’Connell and Mayer are two players Adams and the Raiders hope will develop into cornerstones of their offense. The Silver and Black will return home next week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November. 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m.
