Which Canes Player Are You Most Thankful For?

We are rapidly approaching Thanksgiving in the United States, and the hockey world is enjoying a rare non-holiday day off. The rest of the league, including the Carolina Hurricanes, will resume play tomorrow evening. The Carolina Hurricanes will play the Edmonton Oilers.

Keeping with the theme of the week and the holiday spirit, let’s look at what we have to be thankful for in Caniac country.

Which player or players have you been most grateful for this season?

I’ll begin the conversation with the Canes’ player for whom I am most grateful. Every game, I pay attention to this player. As a fan, I’ve always been most concerned with the level of effort put forth on the ice and the personality of the players.

Jordan Martinook is one of those “glue” guys who holds the boys together in good and bad times. He works hard every night and never takes a break. Martinook, who has faced failure, takes every opportunity he gets very personally and understands the importance of hockey in the community.

Jordan Martinook Is Carolina's #1 Grinder But Should We Expect More?
The 31-year-old forward performs all of his duties cheerfully. Martinook’s ability to contribute in a variety of situations for the Canes makes him invaluable. The numbers aren’t flashy, but the former Arizona Coyotes winger has a great shot and proved it last season with 13 goals.

This season, the 10-year veteran has only four assists but has played well defensively, with a plus four rating.

Aside from hockey, Martinook has been an influential member of the Raleigh community since joining the team in 2018. As a husband and father of two children, the Manitoba native understands what is important in life.

Martinook is all about making everyone feel welcome and included, whether it’s hosting community events, donating to charity, or hyping up NC State football fans.

As we prepare our Thanksgiving dinners for later this week, try to remember to be thankful with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas!
