This is a tuff sad news for Boston Celtics

While the Celtics knew at least two starters would likely be on the injury report ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Bulls, another starter also popped up.

Jrue Holiday is questionable with a right ankle sprain, which was expected. So, too, was Kristaps Porzingis being listed as out with a left calf strain. The small surprise was Derrick White, who’s listed as probable with a non-COVID illness. On the positive side for White, he’s not dealing with an actual injury and appears to be on track to play Tuesday.

The other injuries were no surprises based on recent games. Holiday has sat the last two games because of the ankle sprain. C’s coach Joe Mazzulla said that Holiday went through a workout Monday, so they’ll see how the ankle responds and how he feels at Tuesday’s shootaround.Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls preview, injury report, and info - January 15, 2022 | Banner Town, USA

Porzingis will miss his second straight game because of the calf strain. At this point, it doesn’t appear to be a serious injury. Mazzulla said pregame Sunday that the big man will likely be out for around a week, so there are no red flags when it comes to his timeline to return. He’ll likely miss at least a few more games, though the C’s don’t play again until Friday against the 76ers.

With Porzingis out, expect bench players to get some more run. Neemias Queta was a nice surprise Sunday against the Hawks, building off his preseason play. Dalano Banton, Luke Kornet and others will also likely see more minutes if Holiday or White aren’t available to play.
