Wanderers into round three of the competition

Wanderers will face Premier League opposition in the third round of the FA Cup after being handed a trip to Luton Town.

The Whites were the second ball out of the bag in Sunday’s lunchtime draw and will make their first trip to Kenilworth Road since an FA Cup tie January, 1997.

Ian Evatt’s side took Wanderers into round three of the competition for the first time since 2019 with a 5-1 second-round victory over Harrogate Town on Saturday as they made it nine wins from their last 10 games.

The in-form Whites will now be hoping to pull off repeat of their 1996/97 win over the Hatters – progressing thanks to a 6-2 win in a fourth-round replay following a 1-1 at Luton – when they try to upset the top-flight team at the start of next month.

Luton are currently 18th in the Premier League after making it back to the top tier for the first time in 30 years last season, with the draw meaning a return to Kenilworth Road for Hatters’ old boys Carlos Mendes Gomes and Cameron Jerome in the Wanderers’ squad.

The third-round ties are scheduled to be played across the weekend starting 5th January, 2024, which means Wanderers’ scheduled League One game at local rivals Wigan Athletic will be postponed and re-scheduled for a later date
