On Thursday night, the Steelers were embarrassed for a second straight week against an inferior opponent, with the New England Patriots coming out on top against Mike Tomlin’s squad.

As if losing two games in a row while trying to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC wasn’t bad enough for Pittsburgh, the team has lost one of their best pass-rushers to a concussion.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Alex Highsmith is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol.New England Patriots snap five-game losing streak in unlikely road victory against Pittsburgh Steelers | CNN

Fortunately for Highsmith and the Steelers, Pittsburgh has a little extra time to get the pass-rusher healthy and ready to clear the league’s concussion protocol since the team is coming off a game on Thursday night.

In the 13 games Highsmith has played thus far, he’s recorded 6.0 sacks, 27 solo tackles, and two forced fumbles, which shows how much he means to this defense and how much the team will need him moving forward in the final stretch of the regular season.

The next time the Steelers will get on the field will be on Saturday, December 16 against the Indianapolis Colts, who are also trying to clinch a playoff spot in the AFC.

After that game, Pittsburgh will face the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens to finish out the regular season.
