The Michigan Wolverines added another commitment to their 2024 class on Saturday, this time flipping three-star defensive lineman Deyvid Palepale. The 6-3, 305 pound defender originally committed to USC over the summer, but noted that his relationship with U-M defensive line coach Mike Elston played a major factor in his decision to flip to Michigan.

“I see an extension of my parents,” Palepale said. “I think that for me to succeed, especially going in, I think all recruits will take into account who’s looking after them and that, for me, will be coach Elston.

“Being around him and his family when I went on the visits each time even, on an official, and when I went out in the spring, I was around him and his family, and that kind of stood out to me. How he talks us players, how he talks about them when they’re not around, we built a great relationship even before committing to USC.”

Palepale also indicated that the success of younger defensive lineman, particularly when it comes to guys like Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, really stood out. He knows that the Wolverines have developed a culture of success in Ann Arbor, and that’s something Palepale is excited to be a part of.

“It definitely was exciting because, I mean, shoot, they are the No. 1 team in the nation,” he said. “That’s really exciting. When I watch Michigan, everyone along the defensive line gets a piece of action, whether it’s the nose, the 3-tech, the linebacker that’s walked up, they just do a lot.”
