SAD NEWS: HEAVY SET DOWN AS MATTHEW PATRICK LAFLEUR GREEN BAY PACKERS COACH DECIDES ON…

This season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers are battling for a spot in the playoffs. Before facing the New York Giants on Monday night, the Packers are currently 6-6.

The Packers would be the seventh and last seed in the NFC playoffs if the season ended tonight.

With a record of 6-7, the Tampa Bay Bucs are tied for first place in the NFC South with the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. For the remainder of the season, these two teams will be playing in a “must win” mindset every single week.

However, a current Packers starter has been connected to the Buccaneers.

Savage, an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, might be finishing his career in Green Bay, according to Bleacher Report. According to the report, Savage is also expected to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, another Bay.

Tampa Bay will require a free safety who can roam the field if Antoine Winfield Jr. decides to sign a contract outside of the draft. Savage is quick enough to play center field and contribute to sideline-to-sideline coverage, so he can fill that job. In five years, he has defended 31 passes and made nine career interceptions, demonstrating his strong ball abilities.

The Packer will likely be among the front office’s better choices to replace Winfield even though he isn’t quite the same player.

Prior to the start of the current season, there has been much talk about Darnell Savage in the Packers. When the team selected his $7.9 million fifth-year option, he moved up to the 17th highest paid safety in NFL history.

Savage began to show signs of inconsistency in 2021, following two excellent seasons as a first-round selection out of Maryland in 2019.

In the 2022 offseason, the Packers granted him the option year payout, which was applicable for this year as well. Given his little playing time in 2023 (seven of the 12 games the Packers have played thus far), it wouldn’t be shocking if they let him go.

But the Packers’ long-term strategy beyond Savage at the position will be a major factor in their quest
