Oklahoma OL moving on from the Sooners to…..

Missouri landed the commitment from Oklahoma freshman offensive lineman Cayden Green out of the transfer portal Tuesday. Green, the No. 4 overall player and top blocker on the market this recruiting cycle, chose the Tigers over Oregon after making himself available last week.

Green is part of a mass exodus of offensive linemen at Oklahoma this portal cycle and leaves the Sooners barren of top-end talent at the position entering the offseason. Green is Missouri’s third transfer commit this cycle, joining Clemson cornerback Toriano Pride and Georgia State ballcarrier Marcus Carroll.

Eli Drinkwitz continues a hot streak in recruiting for the Tigers, who won 10 games this fall and battles Ohio State later this month at the Cotton Bowl. Missouri recently beat out Alabama and Ole Miss for 2024 running back Kewan Lacy and was able to retain a number of its best players this month, including Luther Burden, to enhance their 2024 Playoff chances.

Per Sooners Illustrated, the 6-foot-5, 316-pound four-star first saw action in Oklahoma’s second game in a 66-17 win against Tulsa. There, the longtime offensive tackle played guard after a week’s preparation due to injuries to players ahead of him on the depth chart. Green played 32 of 68 offensive snaps, which counted as his first action.

Green then started five of the final six games for the Sooners. Growing up, the offensive lineman out of Lees Summit (Mo.), had always been an Oklahoma fan. In a win against Texas this season, Green played 57 of Oklahoma’s 82 offensive snaps. And he helped an offensive line that paved the way for a season-high 201 rushing yards and limited Texas to only one sack of Dillon Gabriel (Texas was averaging 2.8 sacks per game entering the contest).

Oklahoma now has to replace left tackle Walter Rouse, left guard Savion Byrd, center Andrew Raym, right guard McKade Mettauer and right tackle Tyler Guyton.

The portal is an online database that players will enter their name into if they decide to pursue a transfer. Players notify their current school’s compliance office that they wish to put their name into the portal — typically, players’ names show up within 48 hours. Coaches have access to the database and can contact any player who has entered.

College football has two transfer windows: one following the regular season and one following spring practice. The fall portal window opened Dec. 3, one day after conference championship games and will remain open for 30 days, closing at the end of the day on Jan. 2, 2024. Players who compete in a postseason contest (the CFB Playoff or a bowl game) will be given an additional five-day window to transfer after their final contest.

Prior to this school year, players had 45 days to enter their name in the portal following the end of the regular season. The NCAA amended that rule this fall, cutting down the window to 30 days.
