With 15 sacks this season, Trey Hendrickson leads the Cincinnati Bengals and is only one sack behind NFL leader T.J. Watt. Against the Vikings, he broke the franchise mark for sacks in a single season, and he’s still got it going on.
Hendrickson has developed into maybe the best free agency acquisition in Bengals history, and he is currently on pace to have 18 sacks for the season.
One of Hendrickson’s quarterback hits during their victory over the Indianapolis Colts, however, didn’t exactly wow the NFL. According to the NFL, they were so dissatisfied that they chose to punish Hendrickson $21,855.
It was evidently a late hit and an extremely infrequent error made by the seasoned pass rusher. It prolonged the Colts’ drive, which culminated in a fourth-down touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew. It was appropriate to throw the penalty flag, and that is what happened. The fact that Hendrickson will be penalized doesn’t surprise me. Regarding the sum, it’s a little startling, but I have no idea how much or for what reasons men get penalized.
It should be noted that Hendrickson had a massive game against the Colts, and helped them overcome the big shift in momentum before the half.
