After the Premier League team fired Steve Cooper, the Welshman’s exit as manager sparked reactions from Nottingham Forest supporters.
The Welshman has been replaced at the City Ground by Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves.
After weeks of uncertainty over his future, the 44-year-old was fired on Tuesday after overseeing a miserable run of just one victory in 13 games. Since then, Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur, has taken his position at the City Ground. He has been given a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Although Cooper had a challenging season, the Pontypridd-born manager won the hearts of Forest supporters by entirely turning the team’s fortunes around in his first season in command.
Cooper led the Reds from the bottom of the Championship to Premier League promotion after taking over in September 2021 after leaving Swansea City. The team defeated Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley. Additionally, Forest maintained their top tier standing last season despite a challenging campaign because to Evangelos Marinakis, the club’s owner, choosing to retain Cooper on board rather than fire him.
To the dismay of supporters who regarded the former England U17 manager as a fine manager who also knew and valued the city and its supporters, the club, currently sitting in 17th place in the Premier League, fired the manager.
Following the confirmation of Cooper’s resignation, a Forest supporter paid respect to the manager on social media and shared an account of a heartfelt gesture he had done but had not before been publicized.
Nottingham schoolteacher Michael Bradley used X to discuss his unexpected encounter with “a chap called Steve” and to characterize the Welshman as “more than the Forest coach”.
