Though Ohio State breathed a sigh of relief when it was all over, everything is well that ends well.
Ohio State will sign five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who is regarded as the nation’s best overall prospect.
Smith and OSU have a long-standing relationship because he committed to the university in December 2022. Nevertheless, there have been several attempts to split the two, including last-minute moves by schools like Florida State, Florida, and Miami.
Given that Smith is a native of Opa Locka, Florida, it seems natural that the three dominant Florida universities were attempting to retain him there. It is not unexpected.
Surprisingly enough, though, Miami seemed to be much closer to flipping Smith than many had thought.
What a huge win and upset that would have been for Mario Cristobal, though, would have gone to Smith’s bag, which held two hats, as expected, during the announcement. Still, the rich get richer, because another generational wide receiver prospect will be a Buckeye.
