Burnley faces a “bit of a dilemma,” according to Vincent Kompany, about whether to hold out or pull out of the January transfer window.
With 15 new signings, the Clarets were one of the Premier League’s busiest teams during the summer transfer window.
But with Kompany’s team stuck in 19th position and six points out of safety, the investment hasn’t paid off yet, at least not in the near term.
In response to the question of whether Burnley is stuck or should turn in January, Kompany stated: “I think it’s fair to say it’s a bit of a dilemma.”
In actuality, our team will continue to get better because many of these players are only entering the Premier League and are developing.
It’s a delicate balancing act, though, to determine if you can go out there in January and get the appropriate kind of players to turn things around while also making sure you don’t expose yourself to anything wholly illegal if you lose.
The market will ultimately decide. We can take action if the proper chance presents itself, but we can’t pursue it if it’s not there. We’ve dealt with situations similar to this in the past and know how to turn things around when necessary.
“Remaining competitive is the most important thing to us.”
It was also mentioned that Burnley would live to regret it should relegation unavoidably ensue if they fail to bolster their squad in January.
Kompany remarked, “I don’t think in hypotheticals like this.”
“Winning the next game is my sole focus and aspiration. The game after that, if it’s not the one after that.
You don’t place yourself in a situation where you look back on any of the other stuff. Every decision you make has a good basis. If we damage the club beyond repair, it will be our greatest regret.
It’s a little miracle in and of itself that the club survived and rebounded last year, and occasionally you have to count your blessings and make sure you’re always becoming better.
“I want us to be a team that can succeed in the Premier League in three or four years, not just one that is scraping by.”
