A Bright and Dark Promise For The Washington Commanders

ASHBURN, Virginia Every week, the projection is updated. Sam Howell appeared to be the Washington Commanders’ quarterback of the future for a spell. It’s been less obvious lately. It has also raised concerns about what his future role will be following this season.

It may rely in part on how he performs in the upcoming three games. Quite a bit will depend on who makes that call, as coach Ron Rivera and his staff are probably out of the picture. For this reason, there will be a weekly vote on Howell, which will continue this Sunday (5/9) during the New York Jets game.

Howell doesn’t really listen to what’s being said. He claims the upcoming game is his main priority. All he has control over is that. Plus, he presents a more compelling case for sticking with him if he performs well.

“I think those questions won’t exist if I’m playing my best football at a consistent rate,” he added, “but obviously there are a lot of questions about what’s going to happen after this year.” I’m simply going to keep trying to play well on the football field and record quality footage of these remaining three games.”

After observing Howell this season, former NFL general manager Rick Spielman predicted that the quarterback’s late troubles would raise questions about his future. According to Spielman, the person making the choice needs to assess if the drop-off is due to him, the skill talent around him, or pass protection.

“There are a lot of things they have to look at in the offseason to determine if he’s the guy or not,” Spielman stated.

THE CASE FOR

Howell shows promise

Howell has demonstrated his ability in numerous instances and contests. With a QBR of 77.2 in the latter three quarters, he threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns, helping Washington overcome an 18-point deficit against the Denver Broncos. In two games versus the Philadelphia Eagles, he completed a pass with five touchdowns to one interception. He has a history of making big completions on off-schedule passes, most recently in a victory over the New England Patriots.

Howell threw just four picks and fourteen touchdown passes in a seven-game span, which tied him for the most during that time with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Howell has demonstrated his tenacity by rushing physically; last month, against the New York Giants, he ran seven yards for a touchdown after taking down three players.

Guard Sam Cosmi of Washington stated, “He’s grown a lot.” “He’s come a long way, particularly in terms of confidence. He is resilient. He is an extremely talented quarterback with a great deal of untapped potential. The arm is with him. He is talented. He possesses all that is mentioned. I adore blocking for Sam.

There would be little question as to the existing staff’s intentions with Howell if they were to return.

Rivera remarked, “We do feel strongly about the quarterback.” “We feel we have a guy going forward that we have a chance to grow and become what we think we can, and to do so, you’ve got to be able to afford the situation, and I think that’s what’s growing for us right now.”
