PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have seen the effect of having Andy Weidl as their assistant general manager. Since joining the team last season, parting with Omar Khan to replacing Kevin Colbert, the team has watched a number of players join the team and credit Weidl for helping get them there. But now, the Steelers rising front office star may be on his way out. With a few general manager job openings this offseason, Weidl is being named a candidate to watch, starting with the possibility of leaving for the Washington Commanders. Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala floated Weidl’s name out as a person to watch while the Commanders search for a new GM. The Steelers assistant has a connection to Washington, with the team’s new owner, Josh Harris, being a former minority owner of the Steelers.

Prior to Pittsburgh, Weidl worked with the Philadelphia Eagles for seven years. He’s been on a few list of potential candidates for GM jobs over the last two years, and depending on how the Steelers’ season finishes, he could find himself with a new job in 2024.
