Nottingham Forest bypass FIFA regulations

Due to an administrative error, midfielder Jonjo Shelvey’s transfer from Nottingham Forest to Caykur Rizespor was altered from a loan to a permanent agreement.

The 31-year-old’s transfer to Turkey in September of last year was first reported to be a season-long loan. However, following the official announcement, events occurred that changed the arrangement to a permanent one.

According to FIFA regulations, teams are only allowed to have seven players on loan at any given moment. The Reds haven’t broken any rules because they corrected a mistake right away to make sure everyone was in compliance.

Junior loans are not included in the seven that are allowed. Because of a mistake, Alex Mighten’s age-related loan registration at KV Kortrijk was first recorded as a junior rather than a senior. As a result, Shelvey’s switch was made permanent to guarantee it was completed.

Shelvey signed a two-and-a-half-year contract to join the Reds from Newcastle United about a year ago. But he didn’t make the kind of impact that was expected, and he only appeared in eight Garibaldi games.

His only contribution to Forest during a 2-0 loss at Aston Villa in April turned out to be an error. His relationship with former head coach Steve Cooper soured, and he was sidelined for the remainder of the season as survival was assured.

After the transfer market closed last summer, he was not included in the 25-man Premier League squad and did not fly to Spain for a pre-season training camp with his teammates. Since the transfer, he has played in 13 league games and netted one goal for Rizespor.
