The defender is enthusiastic about the challenge that Bolton’s Premier League opponents on Sunday are sure to present and feels that his team is now more prepared to handle the stronger teams they face in League One.
The belief that Luton would collapse rapidly upon promotion to the Championship has already been disproved. They have already forced both Arsenal and Manchester City to concede a draw at Kenilworth Road and held Liverpool to a draw.
It’s unclear if Wanderers will have the opportunity to play their spacious style on a pitch that is known for being cramped, but Forrester assures us that they will be ready for whatever comes.
“This league has different teams that play different styles. No offense to teams like Burton, who play a style that works for them, but you can get the occasional dead leg and knocked around,” he said to The Bolton News. “I believe that we are becoming increasingly adept at handling that kind of situation.
We are aware of Luton’s difficulty. We are aware that it will be a rigorous physical test. However, I’m really interested to see how we stack up against players that are competing in the top league.
“I believe there is a great deal of confidence in our camp. They are clearly performing incredibly well, even though they have recently scraped a few results. They are fighting, even though not many people thought they would stay up.
“I think we’re all excited about the game,” I said. We have Premier League opponents, so maybe we can go there, give it our all, and win. We want to put ourselves to the test against the best.
Wanderers have proven they are a formidable opponent lately, winning their last three games without allowing a point, the last coming on New Year’s Day against Burton when Forrester made his comeback to the squad.
“To be honest, keeping clean sheets is my responsibility as a defender, and every time we accomplish that, it is better than scoring a goal,” he remarked.
“I believe we can get even more, ideally the most in the league, and that was 11 for the season.”
In order to be ready for a busy three-game week that included a trip to Luton on Wednesday, a Bristol Street Motors Trophy match at Accrington on Wednesday, and a home match against Cheltenham Town on Friday, Wanderers players were granted some time off at the beginning of the week.
Though the FA Cup is conceivably third on the list of priorities, Forrester remains upbeat about Bolton’s chances of causing an upset.
“We have been literally non-stop, which was a credit to the lads, being away from all their families,” he said of the festive form.
“I don’t think we are treating Luton as a free hit, we want to go there to put on a performance and get a win.”
