Everton signs two players on low-cost deals

According to David Ornstein, Everton’s priority in the January transfer window will be to keep Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park.

On January 4, the Athletic journalist also revealed that the club would be concentrating mostly on loan and inexpensive transactions, anticipating a quiet transfer window.

According to reports [TEAMtalk, 11 December], Everton has put a £75 million price tag on Branthwaite in response to Tottenham’s interest, and they will seek £60 million from Arsenal in response to their interest in Amadou Onana [Fichajes].

Ornstein responded to this in a January 4 Q&A with The Athletic by saying, “Everton is anticipating a quiet window.” You may be certain that any action they take will involve loans or more low-cost transactions.

“They might be more concerned with holding onto what they already have, especially since other teams are considering players like Branthwaite and Onana.”

It will be vital to Everton’s season-long success to be able to hold onto the services of two of their most significant and impressive players if they are unable to make any significant acquisitions during the transfer window. The two could make a difference while they continue their survival bid.

Despite a strong run of form since they were handed a ten-point deduction by the Premier League, Everton still find themselves just one point away from the relegation zone, while Luton have a game in hand.

The form of Branthwaite has been the centre to everything good Everton have done this season, striking up a formidable partnership with James Tarkowski at the heart of Sean Dyche’s defence.

While Onana hasn’t always played well, he’s still a vital component of Everton’s ambitions and, at just 22, is still growing and learning under Dyche’s tutelage.

Given their significance to the squad, it would be shocking if they were let to depart midway through the season, but it would not be shocking if either player left at the end of the campaign.
