This winter, Leeds United needs to strengthen its roster, and at full-back is one position they need to add to. Prior to the transfer window, left-back was noted as a position to reinforce, and with the unexpected decision to send Djed Spence back to Tottenham Hotspur, another right-wing alternative is now required.
Another right-back is now essential because long-serving standout Luke Ayling is attracting interest from other places as well.
Reporter Witcoop has now brought up an intriguing name that is worth keeping an eye on in her piece on X. He says that Connor Roberts, a full-back for Burnley, is a possible transfer to “keep an eye on” for Elland Road this winter.
Roberts was Vincent Kompany’s go-to man on the right at the beginning of the 2023–24 season, having been instrumental in their promotion from the Championship. But since October 21st, the 28-year-old has only played 37 minutes of Premier League football and has fallen out of contention in recent months.
Leeds United’s pursuit of defenders
Many were taken aback by Spence’s choice, but considering the dearth of options at left and right back already, it may be a sign that further acquisitions are imminent. At the very least, such is the hope; if not, Daniel Farke will be even less.
Roberts would undoubtedly make a significant contribution at right back. A versatile full-back with experience in both the Championship and Premier League, he possesses the ability to make an immediate impression upon joining the team.
The 54-year-old Wales international provides defensive reassurance in addition to an attacking danger. Roberts has contributed 15 goals and 20 assists in his 173 second-tier outings, maybe bringing another dynamic danger to Leeds United’s formidable assault.
