Stanley Mills, an Everton prospect, will likely return to the team for recovery after suffering a catastrophic injury late in Oxford United’s FA Cup third-round match against Coventry City on Saturday.
The 20-year-old, the son of former England international Danny Mills, signed a season-long loan with League One Oxford Untied on July 27. However, supporters at the Coventry Building Society Arena were taken aback when he fell awkwardly to the ground and had to be helped off after hurting himself while trying to get a shot on goal in his team’s 6-2 loss to opponents who, after losing the Championship play-off final to Luton Town on penalties, narrowly missed promotion to the Premier League last season. In a 3-0 victory over Fleetwood Town on September 16, the right winger, who has played 16 games for the United States this season, scored one goal.
Although the severity of his injury is unknown, there are worries that the young player’s season may have ended too soon and that he will need to return to Finch Farm to begin what may be a protracted rehabilitation process.Mills was a 14-year-old when he signed with Everton. His father played 141 first team games for Leeds United.
