After their draw at Kenilworth Road, Wanderers will now host Luton at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in a third-round replay. According to chief executive Hart, League One clubs still consider this to be a major event.
Hart believes it is crucial to preserving the “magic of the cup,” despite the difficulties it can present for teams competing at the top of the Premier League and in Europe.
He told BBC 5 Live, “As the CEO of League One, I am very in favour of them because getting Luton back up north is very lucrative for us.”
We consider 20,000 attendees at the Toughsheet Community Stadium to be a solid six-figure pay day. From that vantage point, it is advantageous.
“Remember, I was a Premier League chief executive (at Burnley) before I took office here, so I do see all sides of the issue, therefore I don’t buy into this scheduling thing.
“Yeah, I kind of see the scheduling discussion when you are at the top of the Premier League and playing in many competitions.
However, I believe that organizing a repeat makes perfect sense for League One clubs, including Luton, thus I wholeheartedly support them.
