The New York Giants easily defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s regular-season finale, dealing a serious blow to the team’s ego.
Jalen Hurts, the quarterback, and wide receiver A.J. Brown both suffered injuries throughout the game, which added another layer of significance to the defeat.
Hurts left the game briefly after dislocating his middle finger, but he returned before the Eagles benched their starters after halftime. Brown exited with a knee injury and did not return.
Although the extent of Brown’s injury is unknown, Hurts’ finger X-rays showed the quarterback did not break, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Hurts is still listed as day-to-day with the injury.
The fact that Hurts will be available to play is possibly the best news out of Philadelphia in recent weeks, as it will likely determine how the Eagles do against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.
This season, Hurts has shown flashes of inconsistent play, but overall, he has helped the Eagles win games even when their defense has faltered.
Marcus Mariota would play under center in the away playoff game if Hurts is unable to travel.
Due to injuries, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and cornerback Darius Slay missed Week 18, while safety Sydney Brown tore his ACL during the game. The Eagles are playing their worst football at the worst possible time.
