The New York Yankees are allegedly considering acquiring a top free agent pitcher, but they passed on the chance since strengthening their starting rotation this winter is their main goal.

The team had a number of needs going into the offseason, and they were able to solve some of them quickly when they completed a blockbuster deal for All-Star outfielder Juan Soto. Even if the young player will significantly strengthen their lineup, this winter’s first focus was improving the rotation.

Marcus Stroman, a veteran of the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays, is one player they will not be signing. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, an MLB insider, Marcus Stroman has told the Yankees that he would be very interested in signing a deal with them on Sunday. But it appears that the group decided not to provide an offer to the 32-year-old native of New York, at least not just now.
The Blue Jays turned Stroman into a star over his first six and a half seasons before trading him to the opposing inner-city team, the Mets, so the Yankees are familiar with him. He was named an All-Star in 2023 after having a fantastic season with the Cubs. He did, however, choose to forego the last year of his contract, and throughout the season, he made remarks about his long-term contract predicament that angered many Chicago executives as well as fans.
