It appears that Yates, the master of Forest, has taken the Frenchman by surprise since he became a senior player.
Yates came through the club’s youth program and, since making his debut for Forest in 2019, he has played in 182 games.
In 2015, Moussi worked out with Forest to maintain his fitness, and at that time, he noticed something that he believes has helped him stay in good shape now.
The Frenchman stated on The Garibaldi Red podcast: “Ryan Yates joining the Forest team has made me very happy, but Morgan (Gibbs-White) is the player I like to watch in our squad these days. When I saw him in 2015 during squad training, he was a young player—I believe he was 16 years old.
The first thing I always noticed about Yates was that he was always listening to every beat of what you said and then learning. To be honest, he wasn’t the one I would have thought would maybe break through.
He was receptive to learning, and in both life and football, it is beneficial to be open to listening to and picking up tips from those with more life experience. He is amazing now that he is leading a Premier League team.
Yates is on the right track, but he’s still learning.
Since being promoted to the Premier League, Forest has added a ton of talented midfield players, but Yates is still being chosen, and there’s a good reason for that.
The vice captain hasn’t always been Nuno Espirito Santo’s first pick in 2023–24, but he has started three of the team’s four games.
It’s not shocking to learn that Moussi discovered Yates, a novice Forest player who was eager to learn from more seasoned players and act as a sponge.
Yates in a Forest shirt has more to give, even at 26 years old. Though he’s constantly learning, Espirito Santo might be the manager he needs to really take off.
