The Chicago Bears are about to embark on what may be considered their most significant offseason in team history. The Bears are loaded with choices, even in the event of another setback in 2023–2024. They could play a variety of positions and do about anything they wanted because they have the first pick and more assets going into the 2017 draft.
The Bears must decide whether to sell quarterback Justin Fields for assets or keep him on staff. They also need to decide whether to keep head coach Matt Eberflus or hunt for a new leader.
A domino has just dropped, which could cause the Bears to reconsider their current course of action.
Bears Rumors: Mike Vrabel an Obvious Upgrade From Matt Eberflus
Mike Vrabel has just been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Tennessee Titans. He saw much success that the Titans had not seen in quite some time, including a trip to the AFC Championship Game in 2019. But after two straight losing seasons, the Titans are deciding to pivot to a new path.
Vrabel was a player under Bill Belichick in New England during their run of dominance. After retiring, he served as a linebackers coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2011-14. After a couple years in the same role with the Houston Texans, he was promoted to defensive coordinator, where he caught the eye of the Titans for the head coach role.
If the Bears plan to keep a defensive mind at the head coach position, Vrabel is a clear upgrade from Eberflus. They could even retain Eberflus and make him defensive coordinator if they wanted to. It would be unprecedented, but wouldn’t that be something?
Hiring Vrabel would boost the confidence of Bears fans everywhere, no matter what else they decided to do.
