Chris Low of ESPNÂ writes that Nick Saban is reportedly leaving his position as head coach. With Alabama football, Saban was a legend who guided the team to six titles.
Saban, 72, has been the head coach at Alabama since 2007. Before joining the Crimson Tide, Saban had already made a name for himself as a well-respected college football coach, but he achieved new heights at Alabama.
In addition to the six national championships stated earlier, the program earned nine SEC Championships under Saban. After Saban took charge, Alabama’s college football program rose to prominence in the country. Field Yates claims that during the last 16 years, Saban has a 199-23 record—a remarkable.896 winning rate.
He has a good case to be called the best college football head coach of all time. The news of his retirement has already prompted many in the sports community to voice their thoughts.
There has been some quiet discussion on Nick Saban about this possibly happening, but when it occurs, it’s still amazing. The unanticipated chain reaction indicates that a major program is losing its coach, something the coach had no clue was even feasible. An unprecedented legendary run in T-Town, as ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt put it.
There had been speculation regarding Saban’s possible retirement, as Van Pelt indicated. But over the previous few weeks, the rumors have mostly been refuted.
If Alabama had become the champs this year, Saban’s decision to resign might have been more predictable. But many supporters anticipated Saban to come back and try to win it all the next year after they were defeated by Michigan in the College Football Playoffs.
