Leeds united signed a new player worth £5m

Leeds United is getting things done, and the January transfer market is starting to pick up steam. Although the Whites haven’t added anyone just yet, they have decided to send Luke Ayling on loan to Middlesbrough and Djed Spence back to Tottenham.

They will therefore likely be busy in the upcoming weeks as they try to make the acquisitions that will help them cross the finish line in the promotion race. Here are a few headlines from Elland Road that have been making the news this evening.

Darko Gyabi, a young player for Leeds United, is reportedly a target for Plymouth Argyle this month. Gyabi has had difficulty getting into the starting lineup at Elland Road this season after failing to persuade Daniel Farke that he should be included in his plans.

However, Football Insider claims that Plymouth has “opened talks” and that he may be given the opportunity to play football later in the season. Due to the losses of Luke Cundle and Finn Azaz by Plymouth this month, Gyabi may get the chance to get the playing time he so much needs at this point in his career.

The 19-year-old only made two league games for the Whites since joining on a £5 million transfer from Manchester City in 2022.

Chris Mepham, a defender for Bournemouth, is admired by Leeds United, as Alex Crook of Talksport reports. The Wales international is liked by the Whites, according to Crook, who also suggests David Brooks, who was previously connected to a transfer to Elland Road this week, as a possible choice for the Whites this month.

Mepham has only made two Premier League starts this season due to his lack of playing time at Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola. As such, should an approach be made, he might be available this month.

Leeds now has a number of options at center back, including Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper, and Charlie Cresswell. However, since Cresswell has been linked to another team and Struijk is currently injured, an approach for Mepham cannot be completely ruled out.
