Greg Olson, a former Bears assistant, is the team’s fourth-named candidate for offensive coordinator.
The 60-year-old Olson began his extensive NFL coaching career as the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. Under Seattle offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, another person rumored to be a contender for the Bears offensive coordinator job, he presently serves as the quarterbacks coach.
In 2003, Olson worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Bears under Dick Jauron, with John Shoop serving as the offensive coordinator. He was with the Bears only one season but has been with eight NFL teams.
Olson worked as a member of Sean McVay’s staff while coaching the Rams, just like two other contenders, Waldron and Liam Coen. It happened in 2022 as well as in 2017. Klint Kubiak, the 49ers’ coordinator of passing games, is the other announced contender.
The other teams Olson worked for were: the Lions as quarterbacks coach 2004-2005; the Rams as offensive coordinator with St. Louis in 2006-07, as QB coach in 2017 in Los Angeles and 20022; Buccaneers as QB coach and offensive coordinator from 2008-2011; Jaguars in 2012 as assistant head coach and QB coach 2015-16 as offensive coordinator; the Raiders in Oakland and Las Vegas as offensive coordinator in 2013-14 and 2018-2021.
He was the offensive coordinator for the Rams in the year that Marc Bulger became just the fourth quarterback in history to pass for 4,000 yards in a season.
