Spurs trade a valuable player.

This season, Doug McDermott is anticipated to be traded by the San Antonio Spurs, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

McDermott and Cedi Osman are two veterans that the Spurs have made available before the February 8 trade deadline, reports Stein.

“The Spurs have made two veterans available, Doug McDermott and Cedi Osman, with McDermott’s contract expiring at $13.8 million and Osman’s at $6.7 million,” Stein wrote before to the deadline of February 8. The Spurs had the option to trade McDermott during the previous campaign, but ultimately opted against doing so. Sources claim that a deal before the season’s deadline is far more likely.

McDermott is averaging 6.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks this season while shooting 46.1% from the field, 46.8% from outside the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line. In the last year of his deal, he is earning $13.8 million.

McDermott’s 3-point field goal % is third in the NBA. Due to his ability to hit 3-pointers, the veteran is being pursued by several contenders.

Given that they are in 15th place in the Western Conference rankings, the Spurs are anticipated to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. With a 7-31 record, San Antonio will miss the playoffs for the seventh year in a row.

In his NBA career, McDermott has averaged 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 0.2 steals, 0.1 blocks, and 0.2 steals while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, and Spurs. He ranks seventh in active players’ lifetime 3-point field goal percentage.
